Bachelor of Music
Trombone
The applicant should prepare music of contrasting styles that best exhibits his or her abilities. The music may be drawn from solo repertoire, etudes, orchestral excerpts, etc.. Scales may be requested.
Bass Trombone
Select from within the following categories:
Concert Repertoire
- Spillman Concerto, first movement
- Lebedev Concerto No. 1 in One Movement
- Hidas Meditation
- Hidas Rhapsody
- Ewazen Concerto, first movement
- Koetsier Allegro Maestoso
Etudes
- A Bordogni/Rochut etude of applicant’s choice, down one octave (not etude #1).
- A non-legato, articulated etude from one of the following books:
- Tyrell Advanced Studies for BBb Bass
- Blazevich 70 Studies for BBb Bass (Books I or II)
- Blume/Fink 36 Studies for F-Attachment
- Gillis 20 Etudes for Bass Trombone
Orchestral Excerpts
(many parts may be ordered from Kalmus, 800-434-6340; others can be found in excerpt books or copied from a score)
Choose one from the following:
- Haydn The Creation
- Mozart Kyrie from The Requiem (version where bass trombone doubles chorus parts)
Choose one from the following:
- Wagner Ride of the Walkyries (minor and major)
- Berlioz Hungarian March
Choose one from the following:
- Schumann Symphony #3 The Rhenish
- Brahms Symphony #1
- Brahms Symphony #4
Choose one from the following:

Choose one from the following:
- Franck Symphony in d Minor
- Kodaly Hary Janos
Major scales in eighth notes, quarter note=60, legato and articulated, in Ab, Bb, C, D and F (three octaves where possible).
Graduate Degrees
- The Graduate audition repertoire in trombone is patterned after a typical undergraduate senior recital. In order to provide some latitude, the requirements are not dictated. However, you must prepare "sufficient material to perform a full solo recital containing works which show a diversity of periods and styles."
