Application Procedures
Mr. Jeffrey Sharkey, the Director of the Peabody Institute, accepts applications for Peabody Career Development Grants each semester. Applications will be considered for future career-enhancing projects in areas in which Peabody offers a major or grants a degree. Grants will typically provide partial funding for a project. The next deadline for applications will be 5:00 PM, March 12, 2013 for the Spring semester.
There is a limit of two awards per person because of the limited funds available.
To be eligible, applicants should meet both requirements:
- Applicants should be either graduate students, undergraduate students already enrolled for at least two years at Peabody, or alumni who graduated from Peabody within the last 5 years
- Applicants should not have received an award earlier in the current academic year, or in the previous academic year, and should have not already received 2 awards.
The committee will give special consideration to innovative and self-sustaining projects, especially those designed to benefit the wider community, but consideration will also be given to funding performances, competition participation, recording projects, the purchase of instruments or PR packages. Requests to support regular college or university study will not be considered. The committee will no longer consider proposals for commissioning original works by current Peabody students.
Please Note: Even if official acceptance to summer programs is not expected before the career development deadline, submit an application. After the deadline, it is too late to be included in the round.
Please submit the online form to start your application, then hand in or mail the following materials to the Director's Office, Leakin Hall 208:
- a brief letter to Mr. Sharkey outlining the project, including the applicant's name and contact information
- a project budget with any supporting documentation and information on other sources of funding if applicable
- a resume
- at least one letter of recommendation from your teacher at Peabody. (Alumni are encouraged to include a letter from another suitable professional source as well as the recommendation from their teacher at Peabody.)
The recommendation may be submitted separately, but please request recommendations early to allow faculty as much time as possible before the deadline.
On completion of the project, award recipients will be asked to submit a brief report and to provide copies of receipts at least equal to the award.
Questions about applications should be directed to Jan Rau in the Director's Office, 410-234-4702.
