Shawn Johnson

Recording Arts & Sciences

Shawn F. Johnson received B.M. degrees (Trombone; Recording Arts and Sciences) and an M.A. degree (Acoustics and Audio) from the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. degree (Acoustics) from The Pennsylvania State University. He is currently a Senior Research Physicist with The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, conducting research pertaining to acoustics, scattering, data analysis, signal processing, and statistics. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Recording Arts and Sciences Department at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, teaching Physical Acoustics. Additional professional experiences include previous employment with The Pennsylvania State University Applied Research Lab, NATO Undersea Research Centre, Acoustical Design Collaborative, Polk Audio, and National Public Radio. He has published and presented his research internationally. Dr. Johnson is a member of the Acoustical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
