An-Chi Ling
An-Chi Ling was born in Kaohsiung and grew up in Taipei City, Taiwan. She learned piano and flute as extra musical skills similar to most students in Taiwan. She started playing trombone as a high school marching band member when 17, and kept the trombone as an interest while studying engineering in university. Although she had not yet taken trombone lessons, Ms. Ling was an active trombonist in Taipei. She was principal trombonist in Taipei First Girls Alumni Wind Ensemble (TFGAWE), National Taiwan University Wind Band (NTUWB), and National Taiwan University Symphony Orchestra (NTUSO). She also performed concertos with those three orchestras in Sep. 2008, Dec. 2008 and Aug. 2012. Ms. Ling has performed with several semi-professional and professional orchestras in the Northern Taiwan area. Outside the classical field, Ms. Ling played lead trombonist in Riot Jazz Orchestra and independent bands “Mary Bites Kerry” and “Funky Brothers”. With those two independent bands she had over 50 performances per year. Ms. Ling has taught basic trombone skills in the Taipei First Girl’s Senior High School, Da-Li Senior high school, and Taipei Municipal University of Education. Those experiences have made Ms. Ling think in both mechanical and musical ways; moreover, it inspired her to consider changing her career from engineering to music. Ms. Ling began studying trombone performance – which may be her second Bachelor Degree - in Prof. James Olin’s studio in September 2012.
