Peabody Scholarships

Peabody Scholarships are awarded based on the merit, talent, financial need of the student and needs of the school for a balanced ensemble. All students are considered for Peabody Scholarship when they apply for admission; however, only students who submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the International Student Financial Aid and Scholarship Application by March 1st will be considered for amounts higher than $10,000. If awarded a Peabody Scholarship, you will receive instructions for viewing your award in the ISIS system along with your acceptance letter. The amount of Peabody Scholarship remains the same throughout a student's program, provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress. Peabody Scholarships will not increase in subsequent years in the same program and students cannot re-audition in the same program for a new scholarship or to increase current scholarship. Completing a satisfactory jury is a personal benefit to the student and will not result in a Peabody Scholarship award or increase.

In order to retain the scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time and maintain satisfactory academic progress. Undergraduate students must achieve a cumulative and current grade point average of at least 2.0, earn a grade of at least B- in major area enrollments (lessons, juries, recitals, hearings) and satisfactorily complete 30 credits each year. Graduate students must achieve a cumulative and current grade point average of at least3.0, earn a grade of at least B- in major area enrollments (lessons, juries, recitals) and complete enough credits each year as follows: MM/MA/DMA students (18 credits); GPD/AD (8 credits).

NOTE: Students who are awarded graduate assistantships are not entitled to and cannot receive the Peabody Scholarship.

SPECIAL NOTE: If you are applying to the Double Degree Program (Peabody as well as Arts, Sciences and Engineering), you must apply for financial aid through the Homewood Office of Student Financial Services. You may contact them at (410) 516-8028 or online at www.jhu.edu/finaid. Students who enroll in the Double Degree program receive all of their financial aid from the Homewood Financial Aid Office.

Baltimore Scholars Program

Baltimore Scholars are citizens or permanent residents admitted from Baltimore City public high schools who make their current residence in the city (three consecutive years minimum residency required). Scholars receive full tuition for undergraduate study. No additional application is required; however, students awarded as Baltimore Scholars must file the FAFSA each year.

State Scholarships

Students from certain states may be eligible for state grants or scholarships to help fund their education at Peabody. Check with your state higher education agency for eligibility requirements. Some states may require a separate scholarship application to be considered for state funds. Maryland residents can check the status of their state scholarships or view the eligibility requirements for each Maryland program online at http://www.mhec.state.md.us/. Peabody expects all eligible financial aid applicants to apply for state funds. Apply early, as each state has a specific deadline and application process. Maryland residents must apply (using the FAFSA) no later than March 1st.
