Zoe Coppola grew up in upstate New York and received her undergraduate degree in piano from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. Taking advantage of the opportunities at a liberal arts school, Zoe began taking harp lessons for fun. She spent a semester studying music (and various other inspiring things) in Vienna, Austria, and upon her return to the States, became confused as to which path to pursue in graduate school. After a long search, Zoe finally met Dr. Inglefield at Peabody - and then things became more clear! Before moving to Baltimore, Zoe spent a year in Guangdong Province, China, teaching English and having wild non-musical experiences. Now, she is happily settled in Baltimore and planning to audition for the Master's program in February. Zoe is enjoying being a part of the harp department and the Harp Adventures program.
Jasmine Hogan is a first year MA Student with a Harp Performance/Pedagogy Major. Jasmine completed her undergraduate degree at Peabody in 2011, and spent 2012 studying Chinese music and Mandarain in Beijing, China on a Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship. She is originally from Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Peggy Houng is a junior pursuing a B.M. in Harp Performance and B.A. Cognitive Science as a part of the Double Degree Program at the Johns Hopkins University and the Peabody Institute. She began studying the harp at age 8 with Dr. Ching-ju Cheng and five years later came under the wing of none other than Dr. Cheng’s mentor, Dr. Ruth Inglefield in Baltimore. Since then, Peggy has participated in master classes with Elizabeth Hainen, Rita Costanzi, Anne-Maguerite Michaud, Natalia Shameyeva, and Sivan Magen. She was the harpist for the Maryland All- State Senior Orchestra from 2006-2009, the All-Eastern Honors Orchestra in 2009, the Peabody Wind Ensemble and both Concert and Symphony Orchestras, and most recently the prestigious Asian Youth Orchestra in 2012. Peggy was a recipient of the 2012 Wickersham/Fouse Award and the winner of the Harp Division in the Baltimore Music Club Competition in 2009. Currently she is a member of Dr. Inglefield’s studio as well as part of the faculty of the harp pedagogy outreach program HarpAdventures.
Cameron Huster is a degree-in-progress student of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Peabody. She has played concerts throughout Florida, Alabama, New Mexico, and Maryland, along with a performance at the World Harp Congress in Dublin, Ireland. She also collaborates with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Florida State University and Master of Music degree from Mannes College-The New School for Music in New York City. Ms. Huster is the adjunct harp professor at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. This fall, she will perform the Boieldieu Harp Concerto with the Stetson University Chamber Orchestra during their String Institute. She originated the DeLand Harp Camp in 2011 and teaches through the Stetson University Community School of Music as well in her private studio.
Olivia Kim has been studying harp performance since she was ten years old. She studied with Marjorie Chauvel, who is currently a professor at Standford University in California. During these years, Olivia has participated in many community activities like performing at the Salvation Army Drug Rehabilitation center, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, and etc. She has also taken part of the Junior Bach festival in 2008, which was one of the biggest music festivals at Berkeley, California. In 2009, Olivia moved to Korea to continue her harp studies. She studied with Ms.Hyun Sun Na, who is a lecturer at Seoul National University. During this time, Olivia won many competitions, which include Midwest Harp Competition and Ewon Recital Competition. She now studies with Dr.Ruth Inglefield at Peabody Conservatory.
Liu Shuang began her musical training at the age of 8 with the piano. Then at the age of 15, she began focusing on studying the harp. She has performed with manyorchestras and famous conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Ozawa Seiji, Carles Dutoit, and Gustav Meier. In the summer of 2011 Ms. Liu one of three harpists invited to perform in the master class with Marie Pierre Langlamet in 11th World Harp Congress in Vancouver. In 2013, Ms. Liu will be one of participants of The USA International Harp Competition 2013 and 2013 “Lyon & Healy Awards” –Los Angeles. Ms. Liu studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in China from 2003-2009 and received her high school diploma and bachelor’s degree. In 2009, Ms. Liu received a full scholarship to continue her musical studies at the Peabody Institute under Dr. Ruth Inglefield’s harp department, in her she received her Graduate Performance Diploma will complete her Master’s Degree in Harp Performance with a Pedagogy Concentration in 2013. Ms. Liu also enjoys teaching harp students. She was one of the founding faculty members of the Peabody Harp Adventures program and is one of the main teachers in several young musician programs in Baltimore including: Mentoring Young Musicians program at the Mother Seton School, The Wilkes School at Grace and St. Peter's Church, and the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra's Bridges Program.
Ruoling Shan began her music life at the age of 6 on the piano. At the age of 18, She is studying harp. Ruoling Shan has studied at China Conservatory during 2008-2011 for her bachelor's degree. Throughout Ms.Shan's career,she was performed with many different famous orchestra in China. And in Peabody Conservatory, she has performed with Peabody Symphony Orchestra and Peabody Concert Orchestra many times. Ms.Shan also has played many solo pieces and chamber music in the recital and concert. And she has been won opportunities to participate in numerous of masterclasses. At the same time,Ms.Shan was interested to teaching a private lesson. She was a member of Peabody Harp Adventures and teaches students from different school.
Laura Stokes is a Senior studying Harp Performance with a minor in Music Business. Laura began her harp studies at age 8 in Charlottesville VA and later went on to study in Wales, UK. Laura is one of the founding members, and currently Director of, the HarpAdventures program. Laura frequently freelances around the Baltimore MD area. www.laurastokesharp.com
Melody Swen is a freshman at the Johns Hopkins University and the Peabody Institute of Music in the fall as a part of the Class of 2016. Having been selected for the Double Degree program, she will pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Health and Studies and a Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance under the tutelage of Ruth Inglefield. She began her musical studies with the piano at age five, and completed the Advanced Level of the Certificate of merit program for piano performance and music theory. Soon after being introduced to the piano, Melody began her harp studies with Alison Austin (Artistic Director of the Pacific Harp Institute) at the age of seven. Prior toher matriculation to Peabody, Melody studied with Pacific symphony’s Principal Harpist, Mindy Ball. Since her precocious beginnings with the harp, Melody has gone on to studyand attend master classes with world-renowned harpists such as Judy Loman, SusannMcdonald, Yolanda Kondanassis, Linda Rollo, and Lynne Wainwright Palmer.
Jordan W. Thomas is a senior at the Peabody Institute of Music of Johns Hopkins University, studying for his Bachelor of music in Harp Performance. He has performed with world renowned violist and President of Curtis Institute of Music Roberto Diaz in a performance of Harold inItaly by Berlioz with the Buck County Symphony Orchestra. He would later make his Concerto solo debut with the Ocean City Pops playing the Mozart Harp and Flute Concerto in C Major with their principle flutist Pamela Whitman. In the spring of 2012 Joran was chosen to represent The Peabody Institute of Music by participating in the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts Three Cities Project where students from all the major conservatories in the United States are picked to perform contemporary chamber pieces. Jordan has recently finished a concert tour in both Baltimore and the Philadelphia Area. He is involved with the harp pedagogy outreach program called HarpAdventures, for which he is the co-director, and is the co-founder of the Black Student Union outreach program for inner city school music programs.
Liska Yamada started taking harp lessons when she was nine years old and immediately fell in love with the instrument. In May 2012, Liska graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Arizona where she studied harp with Dr. Carrol McLaughlin. While studying at the University of Arizona, Liska had the privilege of being in HarpFusion, an international traveling harp ensemble led by Dr. McLaughlin. During her time in Harpfusion, Liska had the opportunity to perform at the Rio nternational Harp Festival in Brazil and at the World Exposition in Shanghai, China as a soloist and with the ensemble. Liska will begin her first year as a harp Masters student at Peabody starting this fall.
Hannah Young has been studying harp for over ten years. She is currently pursuing a degree in Harp Performance at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. She was the principal harpist of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and has played with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, Wheaton Conservatory Choir and Harp Ensemble, St. Xavier University Orchestra, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the West Suburban Youth Orchestra. Hannah was featured on the program “Introductions” on WFMT Chicago’s Classical Music Station. She has studied at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. Hannah attended the Ann Yeung Summer Harp Institute and she was member of IMEA District Orchestra for four years, and was principal harpist for three years. Hannah was a member of the All-State Honors Band in 2011 and All-State Orchestra in 2012. Hannah has also played in master classes with Isabelle Perrin and Faye Seeman.
Rui Zhou start her musical training at the age of 5 with the piano. In 2005,Rui was admitted to the Affiliated High School of Xinghai Conservatory and began focusing on studying the harp. Rui studied at the China Conservatory of Music in China from 2008-2012 and received her bachelor's degree in July 2012. During her study in the China Conservatory of Music, she gained a lot of experiences of orchestral playing. As a member of China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Rui attended several important concerts in China, such as Salzburg Music Festival Preview, Golden Bell National Competition Opening Ceremony and 2011 Art College Stage Performance Week, etc. Now,Rui is a first year MA Student with Harp Performance Major and studies with Dr.Ruth Inglefield at Peabody Conservatory.
