The Position: RIPM (Retrospective Index of Music Periodicals), a non-profit organization, seeks a full-time or half-time Digital Projects Coordinator to coordinate various aspects of the digital production process for RIPM’s two full-text publications and to assume other research, editorial and administrative responsibilities. This is an important position within the RIPM organization with excellent possibilities for growth. Whether the position is full-time or part-time depends upon the qualifications of the person employed and their availability.
Responsibilities include research aimed at reconstructing complete runs of music periodicals from numerous libraries in Europe and the Americas; maintaining contact with librarians and scholars on an international scale; and, after training, planning and overseeing the activities of part-time staff members functioning in two centers for digitization, one at the RIPM Center, the other at the Library of Congress; maintaining records of each step in the digital process from the intake of an image to its release on the Internet; maintaining indexing databases and files and, managing RIPM’s digital workflow and hardware.
Qualifications. A Master’s degree in Music with a formal and/or applied background in information technology. Knowledge of music history from 1800 to 1950, good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment are essential. Experience in at least one of the following is desirable: database construction and maintenance, computer networking (Microsoft environment), scripting, or digital imaging. Knowledge of a foreign language is desirable.
General Information. A project at the intersection of musical history and information technology, RIPM is an international annotated bibliography of writings on musical history and culture, found in music periodicals published in more than twenty countries between approximately 1766 and 1962. Treating primary source material, RIPM provides access to the content of complete runs of journals through the Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals, a database nearly 700,000 annotated citations; the RIPM Online Archive of Music Periodicals, the full-text complement to the Index, containing 114 rare titles; and the forthcoming e-Library of Music Periodicals.

Location. The RIPM International Center is located in Baltimore, Maryland, in close proximity to Johns Hopkins University and the Baltimore Museum of Art, and, ten minutes’ drive to the Peabody Conservatory of Music, the Walters Art Gallery, and Baltimore’s two major concert and opera venues.

Music Director/Conductor
York Symphony Orchestra

The Music Director/Conductor is responsible for ensuring that the repertoire of the YSO serves to meet the long-range artistic, strategic and educational goals of the orchestra. In addition to the traditional responsibilities of a symphony Music Director, S/He assists in the promotion of the YSO by being available for public appearances, special events and personal visits with key members of the community.
The Music Director/Conductor selects guest artists, subject to the available resources of the YSO. S/He serves as the principal conductor, rehearsing and conducting all performances. S/He is responsible for the quality of the performance and of the musicians.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Initiate and formulate short and long-range artistic policies with the Music Committee and the Board.
• With the Music Selection Committee, shape the musical season, initiating, coordinating and communicating programming for all concerts; i.e. repertoire, guest conductors, guest artists and special concert plans.
• Select soloists for each season and provide information to the YSO Executive Director regarding contact information for creating contracts and obtaining promotional material.
• Rehearse and conduct all subscription and special concerts. Oversee orchestra personnel in terms of quality and contribution.
• Audition potential new members of the YSO.
• Participate in and support fund-raising events and community outreach
• Assist in the promotion of the orchestra by being available for public appearances.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Exceptional musicianship and conducting skills.
• A minimum of five years of professional conducting experience.
• Demonstrated success in audience and volunteer relations, orchestra development and audience growth.
• Strong interpersonal relations and communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
