Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church is looking for a music director to lead an energetic, multi-generational congregation of 200 members. Sunday worship consists of a single 10:30 am service; music is a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary music. Instruments include a Zimmer Opus 446 pipe organ with 22 ranks, a baby grand piano and several digital keyboards.
Position is for an interim music director for a minimum period of 6 months from January to June 2013. Position may be extended on a month-to-month basis by mutual agreement, pending decision on hiring a permanent director, for which position the successful candidate is encouraged to apply.
Duties are to plan, prepare and play for regular Sunday services and scheduled special services, including SATB choir rehearsal once a week, Youth choir practice on an occasional basis, and staff meetings as necessary. Looking for strong keyboard skills with both organ and piano, experience in directing small choirs and good interpersonal/teamwork skills.
This is a 10-12 hour/week position. Salary is commensurate with experience and includes some vacation benefits, but no health insurance or pension.

Part-Time Organist/Music Director

Qualifications: Experienced organist, pianist, and choir director with a degree in music. Good organization, administrative, and interpersonal skills. Experience with electronic organs with MIDI interface; familiarity with liturgy and worship within the “mainline” Christian church tradition; willingness/eagerness to be flexible, adaptable, and creative. Compensation and Benefits:

Responsibilities:

• Work collegially with the pastor and worship team in designing worship and music appropriate to the season
• Supervise the work of the Soprano Section leader and any guest vocalists or instrumentalists invited by the Director
• In cooperation with the office administration, arrange for maintenance and tuning of instruments as needed, maintain records required by copyright licensing contracts, administer the music budget, and communicate musical selections and other information for the weekly bulletin and the monthly newsletter
• Stay abreast of current trends and innovations in worship consistent with the theologically liberal perspective of the congregation and sensitive to the diversity in the congregation
• For additional compensation, the Director will have rights of first refusal for weddings and funerals at the church.

9. Attend church council meetings.
10. Be accountable to the Staff Parish Relations committee and supervised by the Pastor.
11. Grow and develop the Music Ministry in line with the vision of the church.
Qualifications:

3. Effective planning and organizational skills

Music Director - Severn United Methodist Church

Severn United Methodist Church seeks a Music Director to play organ for Sunday worship services and lead our choir. We are a long established (1887) small church with a weekly worship attendance of 40 to 50 people. The all volunteer choir ranges in size from 6 to 10 members. Sunday worship services start at 9:30 AM and last approximately one hour. Choir rehearsals are currently Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. This can be changed, if necessary, to suit the mutual convenience of the new Music Director, choir members, and availability of the church building.
Selected Duties:
- Play for the Sunday worship service at 9:30 a.m. and any other special services throughout the church year. The organist provides the Prelude, Anthem (with choir), Offertory, and Postlude and may be responsible for choosing the hymns
