The information on the first page of your I-20 must always be up to date and accurate. Please notify your ISA advisor of any changes in information by requesting an updated I-20 through the procedures outlined below:
Change in funding
Please submit a New Visa Certificate request form and attach the following information:
- Financial documentation (i.e., bank statement, departmental support letter, or letter from funding agency) from the new funding source showing sufficient funds for your program. If you have F-2 dependents, please show an additional $5000 for each dependent. Cost of attendance figures for are availablehere.
Change in degree level or graduate program
An I-20 request will be forwarded from the admissions office to ISA for I-20 issuance. Please make sure that financial documentation is provided to the admissions office or your admitting graduate department for inclusion in the I-20 request.
F-1 students moving from one degree level to another must have the I-20 issued for the new degree program within the 60 days after they complete the requirements for the previous degree. You will be issued an I-20 that reads “initial attendance at this school” for the new degree program, but you are still considered a continuing student for immigration purposes and may travel and work on-campus in the summer between degree programs, provided an I-20 for the new program has been issued.
Change in major (undergraduate students)
Once your major is updated in ISIS, ISA will be electronically notified and will submit your new program of information to SEVIS. You will receive an e-mail from ISA to pick up your new I-20 once the new program information has been successfully reported.
Change in personal information
If your name, date of birth, country of birth, or country of citizenship requires correction or updating, please submit our New Visa Certificate form along with evidence of the change or correct information (i.e., your passport identification page). Students who change their name must have their passport updated to reflect their new legal name before updating their I-20. ISA will also update your ISIS record with your new information.
