The Peabody Recording Studios record all concerts, degree recitals, and special events at Peabody. Recordings are made direct to compact disc. The studios utilize the most advanced techniques and stateof- the-art equipment available today. The current primary recording facility, located in Leakin Hall, contains two fully equipped 24-track control rooms: one digital and one analog. These recording studios are tied to Goodwin Recital Hall, Cohen-Davison lecture/recital Hall and East Hall, while another fully digital facility, located in room 203 of the Conservatory building, is tied to both Friedberg Concert Hall and Griswold Hall. Studio 220, located in the Conservatory building offers a newly renovated recording space along with 48 tracks of digital recording.
Student Recitals
The Peabody Recording Studios record all degree recitals (this does not include Junior or Non-Degree Recitals). After a recital is recorded, a compact disc is placed in the Audio-Visual Department of the Friedheim Library. This disc must remain in the library for a period of two weeks while faculty makes final grading decisions. Once the recital grade is finalized, the student may retrieve the CD from the library. All master recordings are kept in a permanent archive. Additional copies, as well as copies of ensemble performances, are available at a nominal fee of $6.00 for the first copy and $4.00 for each additional copy. Single performances that require two discs will be available for a cost of $10.00. Pricing is for standard duplications of recitals. For duplication requests involving multiple sources, editing fees are assessed and are currently billed at $50.00 per hour. Requests for duplications must be made through the Recording Arts web page at www.peabody.jhu.edu/recordingarts.
Recording Sessions
Recording sessions and recording of non-degree recitals can be arranged by contacting the Recording Studio Manager Ed Tetreault via email at etetrea1@ peabody.jhu.edu. All recording sessions and non-degree recitals will require a 50% deposit prior to scheduling.
