Auditions
Flute: Undergraduate & Graduate
Flute applicants must upload a pre-screening video to DecisionDesk. Repertoire for the pre-screening video is below. It is the same as for regular auditions.
- A complete sonata by J.S. Bach OR a complete concerto by W.A. Mozart (including cadenzas)
- A solo work (unaccompanied) of the candidate's choice
- A third, contrasting work of the candidate's choice (this can be a sonata, a work for flute and piano, a concerto or an unaccompanied work)
Piccolo: Graduate
- A Vivaldi piccolo concerto, complete
- A Mozart flute concerto, complete
- 3 Orchestral excerpt piccolo solos, including Caucasian Sketches by Ippolitov-Ivanov, and 1 by Rossini
The flute faculty strongly urges using an accompanist for the video recording, but it is not technically required. Be advised that occasionally the flute faculty will initiate additional contact with an applicant before making an acceptance decision from a video recording. Pre-screening is not required for those auditioning at a regional location or by video recording.
Applicants are urged to perform repertoire which best represents their performance level and musical taste.
