He also won fourth prize in the AXA International Piano Competition.

Preparatory student Tariq Al-Sabir was chosen to sing the national anthem with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as part of its Fourth of July concert at Oregon Ridge Park. Al-Sabir was one of two winners of the honor, which drew more than 60 other contestants to the BSO’s “Oh, Say Can You Sing” auditions.

In Memoriam

Longtime Conservatory and Preparatory faculty member Shirley Hsiao-Ni Pan (DMA ’02, Piano) died of cancer on July 25. Pan started at Peabody as a graduate assistant in 1993 and, shortly thereafter, became a full-time member of the Preparatory’s piano faculty. She also taught keyboard studies in the Conservatory.
