Paul Ellison Residency at Peabody -

 January 27-28, 2012

 

 

 

The Peabody Double Bass department invites you to attend two events featuring Paul Ellison, co-principal bass at the Grand Teton Festivals, professor of double bass at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, and one of America's foremost string pedagogues. Ellison will lead these two public events as part of a mini-residency at the Peabody Conservatory, made possible by the Levi Family Distinguished Visiting Artists Fund. 

  

 

Master Class


Friday, January 27, 2012, 6:00-9:00 pm

Mr. Ellison teaches a master class for Peabody Conservatory bass students.  

 

Pedagogy Class/Demonstration for String Teachers


Saturday, January 28, 2012, 1:30-5:00 pm
Leith Symington Griswold Hall

 

In this class/demonstration event, Mr. Ellison will work with local bass students, demonstrate technical concepts, and help string teachers find the best solutions for their bass students. Issues relating to setting up and maintaining basses will also be addressed in depth.

Admission to Friday's master class is free. Tickets for Saturday's pedagogy class are $15 in advance or $25 at the door.

Faculty Artist in Residence Harold Robinson

 

Harold Hall Robinson, principal bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra and instructor at the Curtis Institute, is currently Peabody Artist-Faculty in Residence.  Mr. Robinson visits Peabody multiple times over the course of the year for day-long classes, presentations and intensive group lessons with Peabody bass students.  Each student works collaboratively with both their primary teacher and Mr. Robinson to develop her or his own artistry and musicianship.

 Ira Gold joins Peabody Double Bass Faculty

 

 The Peabody Double Bass Department welcomes the appointment of Ira Gold to the bass faculty.  Mr. Gold is a member of the National Symphony Orchestra and on the faculty of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Read more about Ira on his personal page.
