Creative Leadership Immersion Class
Each year during Spring Break, Peabody Conservatory students in the Creative Leadership Immersion class have the opportunity to learn important lessons about creativity, collaboration, and community.
The week-long class brings the Conservatory students together with students from Baltimore City Public Schools, musicians from the Peabody faculty, the Baltimore Symphony, OrchKids, and various other local and national organizations to create a unique large scale piece of music. During the course of one week, an original composition is created, rehearsed, and performed using improvisation and group activities that develop both individual and collective identity.
The class culminates in an always-inspiring performance of the resulting composition, featuring all the partners involved. The 2012 concert was named Best Concert of the year by Baltimore Magazine who also declared it "the most ambitious and spirited show I've seen in a long time!"
Started in 2010 by Jill Collier Warne and Dan Trahey, the Creative Leadership Immersion Spring Break class works with Jill and Dan's music composition troupe, Creative Connections, and gives Peabody Students an opportunity to facilitate numerous Baltimore City stakeholders in the joys of creating and performing new pieces of music. Past participants have found it reinvigorates their love of music, draws out creative thinking, brings people together, and shows them different pathways to use their talents.
