Music for the World
The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, the nation's oldest music conservatory, celebrated the completion of a $26.8million renovation with the Music for the World, from April 17-25. The festival officially welcomed the community to enhanced facilities, new concert halls, and a transformed campus centered in Baltimore's historic Mount Vernon cultural district.
The festival consisted of a series of concerts, lectures and events, including a symposium on The Role of the Arts in Urban Revitalization with special guests New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley.
A Grand Celebration Evening
On April 24, Peabody officially threw open its doors with a Grand Celebration Evening, complete with a performance by faculty artist Leon Fleisher and the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. After the concert, guests were treated to more music and fine dining throughout the campus. Highlights of the evening are below.
