Brass

The age at which a student may begin studying a brass instrument is dependent upon the child's physical size and stamina. The department chair, Larry Williams, would be happy to answer any questions about the appropriate starting age for these instruments.

As students progress in their studies, the Preparatory recommends that the student and/or parent discuss the possibilities of Brass Chamber Music, Horn Ensemble, Low Brass Ensemble, Brass Quintet, and/or the Prep Chamber Orchestra or Youth Orchestra with the student's instructor. Students wishing to explore jazz may be interested in our Jazz Ensemble.

Private lessons are available for students of any experience background, from complete beginners through advanced levels of study for trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba. Please contact Larry Williams larryw@jhu.edu prior to registering, for placement.
