Class Observation

Peabody Dance classes are open to observation by family and friends for at least one session each semester. Students have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have achieved in class, and family members can observe students' progress. For upper-level students, these informal class observation sessions are replaced by "open house" days and formal performances. These observation classes and "open house" days are also used to pass along important information to family members about upcoming Peabody Dance events and performances.

The schedule for observation classes may vary and is announced ahead of time. If you have any questions regarding these classes, please speak to your child's instructor or contact the Dance Office.

Keeping in Touch

Email/Phone Trees are distributed every semester for each class and are Peabody Dance's resource for communicating any of the following:

  • Class cancellations due to inclement weather
  • Studio presentations and performances
  • Receptions, refreshment contributions, etc.

Please note that email is our primary method of communication. Announcements will also be posted online. The information on the Email/Phone Trees is taken from ISIS, so please be sure your information is accurate in ISIS, and please notify dance@peabody.jhu.edu with any contact information changes. Peabody Dance is responsible to communicate to account holders (parents); therefore, student email addresses or phone numbers cannot be used for the Email/Phone Trees.

Visit www.peabody.jhu.edu/dance regularly for the most up-to-date information on the following:

  • Class schedules
  • Summer programs
  • Dress code
  • Master Classes and other Peabody Dance events
  • Rehearsal and performance schedules

Inclement Weather

Peabody Dance follows the Peabody Preparatory class cancellation policy due to inclement weather. Please note that classes are not necessarily canceled when academic schools are closed. Since most dance classes are scheduled during the late afternoon and evening hours on weekdays, inclement weather in the morning may not indicate that classes will be canceled. Please check the Johns Hopkins University Weather/Emergency Information page to find out if Peabody Preparatory classes have been canceled. You may also call the JHU Weather Hotline at 410-516-7781 or 800-548-9004. In the event that classes are canceled, instructors will contact class parents and messages will be passed through the class Email/Phone Trees. Once classes resume, make-up sessions will be scheduled, most often during the Peabody Preparatory make-up week. Make-up sessions can also be scheduled during Peabody Preparatory breaks or at other times as determined by the Artistic Director and the instructors.

Volunteer Opportunities

Peabody Dance could not possibly make it through a season without our parent/family volunteers! Please contact the Dance Office if you are interested in volunteering your time and skills for any of the following:

  • Refreshments for the December open house, Choreography Showcase reception (in March or April), or for the end-of-season performance in May
  • Costuming
  • Scenery/Props
  • Phone-a-thons for the Choreography Showcase
  • Assistance at performances
  • Assistance with mailings (folding, stuffing, labeling, etc.)
  • Other skills or abilities you would like to offer (graphic arts, publicity or fundraising, website maintenance, etc.)

Thank you to all our hard-working volunteers!
