Three week option available*; Levels D&E only
June 18-July 13*; Four weeks; Levels A&B
(*No classes July 4)
This challenging full-day program for female and male students—from promising beginners to highly motivated professional aspirants—provides a well-rounded curriculum which includes the following:
- Ballet technique (from fundamental to advanced levels)
- Pointe/Variations (only for upper-level students who have demonstrated readiness)
- Contemporary Dance technique
Creatively balanced by additional classes in:
Choreography, Improvisation/Composition, African Dance, Other dance forms, Theatre Crafts, Dance History, Dance Notation, and Percussion.
The program culminates in a studio performance, bringing together the participants' whole course of study during this intensive period—a unique and rewarding experience for both the students and the family audience.
Students new to Peabody Dance with previous dance training must complete a placement session to determine which level is appropriate. Beginners with no formal training will enter Level A and do not need to be placed.
Level A: Ages 7-12, beginners and students with one year or less of formal ballet training.
Level B: Elementary
Level C: Upper Elementary
Level D: Intermediate I/II
Level E: Upper Intermediate III/Advanced
All students attending the Five-Week Intensive are strongly encouraged to attend the full program. Classes for students in Levels A&B will only be offered in the first four weeks, and there is no option to attend fewer than four weeks. Students in Levels C-E have the option to enroll for just four weeks and may choose any four of the five weeks from June 18-July 20 (please send notification of selected weeks to dance@peabody.jhu.edu).
Final placements are made on the first day of the program. Parents will be notified by the end of the first week if registration changes need to be made.
