2013 Fret Festival

Don’t miss Peabody Preparatory’s fourth annual daylong celebration of the guitar at the Peabody Institute. The program, for students of all levels and ages, is a great way to discover the guitar or advance your playing skills. The 2013 Fret Festival includes workshops by Peabody Institute (Conservatory and Preparatory) faculty members, participant master classes by guest artist Olivier Chassain, and a vendor fair with Michael Kirkpatrick of Kirkpatrick Guitar Studios featuring instruments, music, accessories and recordings available for purchase. Local luthier David Pace will be on hand again this year to conduct a Creative Kids Table featuring the Little Luthier’s Lesson – Guitar Building, where kids construct their own hand-crafted guitar replica using actual luthiers’ techniques.
A special Conservatory Ensemble Showcase led by Serap Bastepe-Gray and Zane Forshee will be held at 3:00 pm in the Hilda & Douglas Goodwin Recital Hall. This performance is FREE to concert attendees and open to the public. The concert will feature the Peabody Conservatory’s finest young guitarists in the Guitar Ensemble Program, plus a guitar orchestra of Preparatory and Conservatory students.
The fourth annual Fret Festival will conclude with a not-to-be-missed concert by guest artist and presenter Olivier Chassain, professor of the Paris and Bordeaux conservatories, composer, international concert performer and award-winning recording artist. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear the artist awarded the “Choc” of Le Monde de la musique, as well as Classica magazine’s highest distinction for his recordings, perform live.
