2010 Fret Festival

A daylong celebration of the guitar for students of all levels and ages, the 2010 Fret Festival includes workshops by Preparatory guitar faculty members and a master class and concert by guest artist Benjamin Verdery.

The long-term goal of the project is to create a thriving guitar community at the Preparatory, fostering an environment that produces intelligent, sensitive, and driven young musicians.

Parents are encouraged to participate in the 2010 Fret Festival alongside their children. Please note that children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Benjamin Verdery, 2010 Fret Festival Guest Artist

The Peabody Preparatory welcomes Benjamin Verdery to Baltimore as guest artist at the 2010 Fret Festival. Verdery will lead a morning master class and give a not-to-be-missed public performance at 6:30 pm. Declared “an American original, an American master,” by Guitar Review Magazine, and “iconoclastic” and “inventive” by The New York Times, Verdery is professor of guitar at the Yale School of Music. He has released more than 15 albums, including his recent Branches, which features arrangements of works by Bach, Mozart, Strauss, and Hendrix. One of his many compositions, Scenes from Ellis Island for guitar orchestra, has been widely performed and was recorded by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
