Violin & Viola Pedagogy
Master Classes and Teacher Workshops
Rebecca Henry, Director and Instructor
Five Saturdays: 3:00-5:30 p.m. in Room C308 (Conservatory Building)
3:00–4:15 pm Master Class
4:15–5:30 pm Teacher Workshop
This series is open to studio and public school teachers, conductors and pedagogy students. All classes will be offered over five Saturdays throughout the fall/spring semesters at the Preparatory’s main campus (downtown) of the Peabody Institute. A Teacher Workshop will follow each Master Class. Performers are Peabody Preparatory students.
Each year, a different set of topics will be explored. This season, we will start with the first lessons followed by two classes that will focus on specific, sequential warm-up exercises that are targeted to the development of vibrato and shifting from the beginning to advanced levels. In "Stepping Sideways," we will explore exercises, repertoire, review techniques and issues related to working with students who need further technical and/or musical training to solidify their development before they are ready to move forward. In the final Open Master Class, non-Peabody teachers are invited to bring one of their own students of any level to perform. The teacher must register and also email Rebecca Henry to confirm the repertoire (first come/first served by teacher registration).
