Audition Information for 2012-2013 Season
Spring Auditions (winds, brass and percussion) for the Peabody Preparatory's Premiere Youth Orchestra will be held at the downtown campus on Saturday, June 2, 10 am-noon, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.
Fall Auditions for the Peabody Preparatory’s Premiere Youth Orchestra 2012-2013 will be held on August 31, 6:00-9:00 pm and September 1, 1:00 pm-5:00 pm and 6:00 pm-9:00 pm.

The Peabody Youth Orchestra is open to advanced middle through high school age musicians in all strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. This is the premiere orchestra in the Peabody Preparatory Orchestra program, concentrating on standard orchestral repertoire in a high-level learning and performing experience. Rehearsals are typically on Saturdays from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Baltimore main campus. Two to three full-length concerts are given each year, including performances with faculty and guest artists as well as accompanying the winner of the Preparatory Concerto Competition. Complete symphonies and concerto accompaniments are performed.

Membership is open by audition only and previous ensemble experience is preferred. Everyone is welcome to audition for the orchestra regardless of whether or not the student studies privately in the Preparatory. (Only students who study privately in the Peabody preparatory are elegible to participate in the Preparatory recitals and competitions, including the Concerto Competition.)

Current members of the 2011 - 2012 Peabody Youth Orchestra must also schedule an audition if planning to return for the 2012 - 2013 season. Qualified students who are accepted into the orchestra may be eligible for partial scholarship assistance.
Audition Requirements
- Performance of a solo piece (Grade IV, V or VI – MDBA scale) that includes both a technical and lyrical passages or a piece from the Preparatory Advanced Certificate Program level of repertoire (memorization not required).
- Orchestral excerpts (download excerpts for your instrument below).
- Selected scales including chromatic and keys through four sharps and flats, range appropriate for the instrument.
