Reagan Mullin-Martin
Theory
Reagan Mullin-Martin is a recent graduate, summa cum laude, of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied composition under Oscar Bettison. Upon graduation, he was awarded the 2011-2012 Otto Ortmann Award. Previously, Mullin-Martin graduated by unanimous vote, with double degrees, magna cum laude, in music composition, theory and studio art from The TCU School of Music and Fine Arts, where he was a Nordan Young Artist Scholar. He completed his instrumental artist’s studies under concert pianist and conductor Harold Martina, Academy of Music-Vienna, Austria and the Richard Hauser Studio. Mullin-Martin is the 2010-2011 recipient of The Peabody-Honors Ensemble Commission and Prize, and is a two-time winner of the Jonathan Keith Durington Composition Award. In 2009, he received an RCG Artist Grant to compose the Ballet Eros and Psyche.
Mullin-Martin first developed as an instrumental performer in the selective private studio of concert pianist Harold Martina at the prestigious Cliburn Institute. He was coached in master classes by artists José Feghali, Paul Badura-Skoda, Menahem Pressler, Alexander Toradze, Tamás Ungár, Christina Ortiz, Ksenia Nosikova and John O'Conor. Compositionally, Mullin-Martin has presented and participated in master classes and lectures by Louis Andriessen, Eric Ewazen, Gabriela Frank, Mario Garuti, Michael Hersch, Kevin Puts, Christopher Rouse, Christopher Theofanidis, Dmitri Tymoczko, László Vidovszky and Samuel Zyman. As a composer/performer, he balances a growing schedule of performing and creative activities. In the fall of 2012, Mullin-Martin was appointed to the pre-college theory faculty of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
