Carmen Schmidt
Basics of Singing
Carmen Schmidt is a soprano who has sung professionally with Washington Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Washington Concert Opera and Washington Concert Chorale, and Baltimore Opera. Winner of the Distinguished Young Artist Award of Northern Virginia Opera Theater, Carmen has sung four leading roles with their company, including the premiere of Hull's Nancy in the title role. She has appeared as Suor Angelica in the title role, and with Lancaster Opera as “Mimi” in La Boheme.
She has performed as soprano soloist in several sacred works, including Faure's Requiem in Florence, Italy and Mozart's Requiem. Her past first place awards include National Society of Arts and Letters, Washington's Friday Morning Music Club, State and Regional (Southeastern division as well as Baltimore-Washington) NATS. Carmen Schmidt has premiered and recorded several contemporary chamber works and operas. Ms. Schmidt's professional affiliations include American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and The Voice Foundation.
